Volume and concentration calculations
Our Labeling Calculator helps with volume and concentration calculations when labeling proteins required for MDS assays. This calculator is designed to work with our NHS ester labeling guide which provides detailed guidance on labeling and purifying proteins.
- Stock Concentration of dye (mM)
- Protein stock mass concentration (µg/mL)
- Protein molecular weight (kDa)
- Mass of protein to be labelled (µg)

Volumes
Volume of protein stock solution to add | 0 µL |
Volume of PBS to add | 0 µL |
Volume of labeling buffer to add | 0 µL |
Volume of dye stock solution to add | 0 µL |
Additional information
Percent of DMSO in labeling mixture | 0 % |
Amount of protein in labeling mixture | 0 nmol |
Amount of dye in labeling mixture | 0 nmol |
DMSO concentrations higher than 1.8% might interfere with the structural integrity of the protein. When required the calculator will indicate the volume of buffer (PBS) to add to a reaction to ensure that the DMSO concentration in the labeling reaction remains below 1.8%. For DMSO concentrations <1.8%, no additional volume of buffer is required and this field will show 0.0 µL.
In case either the volume of protein or the volume of dye to be added to the labeling mixture are <1.0 µL, it is recommended to dilute the respective stock solution.
